The shot soared into the air. It was a mistake. A few minutes later, everything was over. The forest was once again plunged into silence. At dawn, rescuers found Henryk Dąbrowski sitting under a tree, covered in the jacket of one of the poachers. The wolves were gone. Only tracks in the snow remained—leading deeper into the forest. “Who saved you?” they asked. Henryk stared into the forest for a long time. “His true hosts,” he replied quietly. Since then, no more poachers have been seen in this reserve. And the wolf howls at night sound different there—peaceful. As if the forest knew justice had been restored.
