And there, near the entrance, sitting calmly as if he had never left, was the dog.
He lifted his eyes toward her.
Emma dropped to her knees on the sidewalk, ignoring the curious looks around her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him tightly.
“You’re the one who started all this…” she murmured.
She named him Hope.
Because that was exactly what he had been: hope at the moment when everything seemed lost.
From that day forward, Hope was no longer a stray dog. He became part of their family. Margaret, still weak but smiling, often stroked his head and called him their silent angel.
