Her finger pointed sharply at the plate.

“Every bite,” she said. “You don’t get to leave until it’s gone.”

Sofia’s shoulders shook.

She tried to lift the spoon again.

Then she noticed me standing in the doorway.

The look in her eyes broke something inside my chest.

“Lauren.”

My voice sounded unfamiliar even to me.

Lauren turned around quickly.

For a moment her expression hardened, but it changed almost instantly when she saw who had walked in.
