But she got up anyway.
Her eyes were serious in a way that a ten-year-old’s eyes should never be.
She looked straight at the judge.
“Your Majesty,” she said quietly, her voice trembling but firm.
“Can I show you something your mom doesn’t know?”
There was silence in the courtroom.
So quiet you could hear the faint hum of the ceiling lights.
Caleb is losing control
Caleb quickly turned to face her.
For the first time that day, his calm mask cracked.
“Harper,” he said sharply.
“Sit down.”
But Harper didn’t move.
The judge leaned forward slightly.
“What would you like to show me?” he asked.
Harper swallowed nervously.
“A video,” she said.
“It’s on my tablet.”
My stomach tightened.
Video?
Caleb’s lawyer immediately stood up.
“Your Majesty, we object…”
But the judge raised his hand.
“I will allow a short inspection,” he said calmly.
Then he looked at Harper again.
“But first, tell me something,” he added.
“Why doesn’t your mother know about this?”
Harper’s chin quivered.
“Because my dad told me not to.”
Tablet
Caleb turned pale.
The blood drained from his face so quickly that even the referee noticed it.
