The incredible show
Having reached the last turn, Roger stopped abruptly.
The place he had abandoned… was alive.
The old pigsty no longer resembled what it used to be.
The rusty roof was covered in Virginia creeper.
The muddy enclosures blended into the forest.
Trees had grown everywhere.
But that’s not what astonished him.
He heard something.
“Ngrok… ngrok…”
The characteristic squeal of pigs.
The herd that shouldn’t exist
Roger slowly approached the fence, now almost entirely hidden by the tall grass.
Then he looked inside.
And it froze.
There were pigs.
Not just one or two.
Dozens.
Large, robust animals roamed the surroundings, while piglets ran through the grass.
The 30 piglets he had left behind five years earlier had somehow become an entire herd.
“It’s impossible…” Roger murmured.
Mang Tino stepped forward to stand beside him.
“I told you so,” the old man said softly.
“They haven’t disappeared.”
