Even the flight attendant smiled with visible relief as she passed by.
Elena exhaled slowly, her shoulders dropping for the first time since takeoff.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
“My name’s Elena.”
“I’m Adrian,” the man replied.
The Sleep She Didn’t Expect
For several minutes they sat in comfortable silence.
Lucia slept peacefully against Adrian’s chest.
The soft hum of the engines filled the cabin.
Elena felt the exhaustion creeping over her like a tide she could no longer resist.
“I should probably take her back,” she said quietly.
“She’s fine,” Adrian replied gently. “You look like you haven’t slept in days.”
“That obvious?”
“A little.”
She laughed weakly.
“Single motherhood doesn’t leave much time for sleep.”
The words slipped out before she could stop them.
Adrian didn’t react with pity the way many people did.
Instead he nodded with quiet understanding.
“My mother raised me alone,” he said simply.
Something about the calm sincerity in his voice made Elena feel unexpectedly safe.
