My chest tightened.
Because I had always believed the same.
“I’m not here to take anything from you,” Daniel said quietly. “I just needed to meet you. And he wanted you to know.”
I studied his face again.
This time, I didn’t resist the resemblance.
“You have his smile,” I said softly.
He let out a small breath. “I’ve been told that.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
Then I looked down at the ring in my hand.
“Whose is this?” I asked.
“My mother’s,” he said. “He gave it to her before I was born. He asked me to give it to you.”
