My Son Broke My Car When I Refused To Give Him The Money From Selling My Farm. But Then…

Even a handwriting expert who claimed my signature on the farm-sale documents showed signs of cognitive impairment.

It was an impressive performance.

Built on lies and paid testimony.

But impressive all the same.

Then it was our turn.

Patricia stood with a confidence that made Derek’s smug expression flicker.

“Your Honor, the petitioners have presented an elaborate fiction designed to mask their true motivation: gaining control of Margaret Caldwell’s money to pay Derek Caldwell’s substantial gambling debts.”

“Objection,” Ashford called. “Mr. Caldwell’s personal finances are not relevant to his mother’s competency.”

“Your Honor,” Patricia said smoothly, “we will demonstrate that those finances are the entire reason this petition exists.”

Judge Harrison leaned forward.

“I’ll allow it.”

What happened next was beautiful to watch.

Patricia methodically dismantled every piece of Derek’s case.

The store clerks admitted under oath that they had been paid to testify.

The neighbors confessed they had never actually witnessed any unusual behavior. Derek had simply told them what to say.

The handwriting expert turned out to be a fraud who had been disciplined by professional associations in three states.

But the real bombshell came when Patricia called her surprise witness.

“Your Honor, I call Detective Robert Collins to the stand.”

Derek’s face went white.

Tiffany made a little choking sound.

Detective Collins took the stand and was sworn in. He looked directly at Derek as he began.

“Your Honor, Derek Caldwell is currently under investigation for check fraud, identity theft, and extortion. Three weeks ago, he attempted to forge his mother’s signature on bank documents to gain access to her accounts.”

The courtroom erupted.

Ashford was on his feet objecting.

Derek was whispering frantically to Tiffany.

Judge Harrison was pounding his gavel for order.
