The silence that followed was heavy.
—So we’re talking about seven people —the officer said.
-Yeah.
The officer pointed to the bottle.
—When was the last time you saw this compound?
I thought for a few seconds.
—Yesterday afternoon—I replied—. I was in the lab checking a series of tests before my shift ended.
—Did you notice anything strange?
I slowly shook my head.
—No.
The officer crossed his arms.
—Is it possible that someone stole a sample?
“It would be difficult,” I said. “The lab has biometric controls, security cameras, and digital records of every extraction.”
—But not impossible.
I remained silent.
Because he actually knew it wasn’t impossible.
It only required that someone with authorization enter the laboratory and remove the substance without registering the movement.
