Instead of panicking, Claire took the time to think things through with her sons. They decided to accept the invitation to avoid any immediate retaliation, while carefully preparing their speeches. They needed to speak at the right moment, in front of witnesses.
They would therefore attend the banquet. They would play along, but in their own way.
That evening, Julien shone on stage. He spoke of family, second chances, and paternal pride. He presented his sons as the fruit of his commitment and thanked Claire for her “unwavering support.”
Then he invited the boys to join him.
The audience was expecting a perfect photo.

A heavy silence filled the room.
Nathan continued, explaining how their mother had worked tirelessly, how their father had disappeared and only returned to threaten them. He described their daily life, the sacrifices, the quiet strength that had sustained them until then.
